Animal Control Officer

We are offering an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on community safety and animal welfare in our district. We are looking for a full-time permanent animal control officer primarily based within the Manawatu District, however travel throughout the Rangitikei District may be required. You will also be required to work some weekends and after hours on a rostered basis.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a confident and empathetic person, with a passion for animal welfare. You can relate to a broad range of people, stay calm under pressure and be able to navigate challenging situations with professionalism and be solutions focused.

He aha te mahi| What you will do

  • Action all customer requests
  • Undertake dog and animal impound functions
  • Maintain the pounds to ensure they meet all animal welfare requirements
  • Keep up to date with new legislation
  • Undertake property inspections for good owner classifications.
  • Prepare documents for court proceedings and court attendance when required
  • Work with dog owners to achieve compliance

  • A relevant qualification and/or experience. Or be willing to undertake specified training
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment or without supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation
  • Ability to work rostered weekends/evenings
