Senior Strategic Planner

We are looking for a proactive and innovative Senior Strategic Planner to join Council’s ‘think tank’, the Strategy and Development Team. If you like variety and challenge this role is for you. In any week you could be drafting a strategy, engaging with communities, writing a submission, or leading part of a district plan change. Effective relationship building and engagement skills are crucial, and out-of-the-box thinking is encouraged.
This is a full-time permanent role and based in our main office in Marton. However, travel throughout the district will be required as part of your role.
He aha te mahi| What you will do
- Lead the implementation and review of Council's strategic framework by leading the development of strategies and plans.
- Lead the district plan changes.
- Lead and provide support for community engagement and consultation processes.
- Lead the development and review of key documents relevant to Council’s Democracy function.
- Develop policy positions, submissions, and advice on matters of strategic importance to Council.
- Enhance Council’s partnership with iwi and demonstrate a clear understanding of the intent of, and commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Ko wai to Pukeka| What you will bring
- Tertiary qualification in planning/resource management.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute.
- Proven experience in strategy and plan development.
- Sound working knowledge of statutory processes and of legislation influencing and applicable to local government.
- Experience working collaboratively with Māori communities and/or organisations including a solid understating of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori
