He angitūtanga | The Opportunity

We are looking for a proactive and innovative Senior Strategy Advisor to join Council’s ‘think tank’, the Strategy and Development Team. The main purpose of this role is to lead the implementation of our strategic framework, and to develop and review key strategies and plans for Council. Effective relationship building and engagement skills are crucial, and out-of-the-box thinking is encouraged.

This is a full-time permanent role and based in our main office in Marton. However, travel throughout the district will be required as part of your role.

He aha te mahi| What you will do

  • Lead the implementation and review of Council's strategic framework
  • Lead the development and review of Council’s key strategic documents
  • Lead community engagement and consultation processes
  • Provide advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Council on strategy
  • Develop policy positions, submissions, and advice on matters of strategic importance to Council
  • Enhance Council’s partnership with iwi and demonstrate a clear understanding of the intent of, and commitment to, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Ko wai to Pukeka| What you will bring

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as public policy, planning or similar
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience in strategy and plan development
  • Sound working knowledge of statutory processes and of legislation influencing and applicable to local government
  • Experience working collaboratively with Māori communities and/or organisations including a solid understating of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori
