Information for voting
Electoral role voting
If you are enrolled as a parliamentary elector you will automatically be enrolled and placed on Council’s electoral roll as a residential elector. You should get your voting forms in your letterbox mid to late September.
If you need to enrol or update existing name or address details on the parliamentary electoral roll, you can do so at any Post Shop, online at vote.nz or by phoning 0800 36 76 56.
Check out Vote Local for a simple guide on voting and the importance of getting involved.
Ratepayer voting
If you pay rates on property within our Council area but don’t live in the Rangitīkei you may be eligible to enrol as a ratepayer elector.
It's now easier to enrol with the online portal - click here to fill out the online form and for more information about the portal click here.
A copy of the ratepayer enrolment form can be downloaded here.
Special voting
Special voting documents are available to those:
- whose names do not appear on the final electoral roll, but who qualify as voters
- who did not receive a voting paper previously posted to them
- who spoil or damage a voting paper previously posted to them.
Special voting documents will be available from Friday 16 September 2022 - Saturday 8 October 2022 at:
- Rangitikei District Council main office, 46 High St, Marton
- Taihape Library/Service Centre, 90-92 Hautapu Street, Taihape.
Special voting documents can be posted directly out to voters. The completed voting paper however, must be in the hands of the electoral officer or the deputy electoral officer by noon on election day, i.e. 12 noon, Saturday 12 October 2019.
Special voters must complete a statutory declaration. This is a legal requirement and a protection for voters against possible duplicate voting.
If a voter requests a special vote and is not on the parliamentary roll (e.g. just turned 18 years of age), the person must enrol on the parliamentary roll by Friday 8 October 2022. An application for registration as a parliamentary voter may be obtained:
- from any Post Shop or
- by telephoning 0800 ENROLNOW (0800 367656) or
- by accessing the Electoral Enrolment Centre website on vote.nz.
After voting closes, special vote declarations are forwarded to Registrars of Voters for verification that the voter is eligible and has enrolled as a parliamentary voter.
Special voting documents cannot be collected by candidates or their assistants for distribution to voters.
FAQs
Your say matters. From roads to playgrounds, drinking water to libraries; whoever you choose for Mayor or Council can make a big difference to your future. It's important that you have your say on who represents you at Rangitīkei District Council so we can work towards solving the issues that matter most for you, our community and our environment.

You can vote by filling in the voting papers, placing them back in the return envelope provided and dropping them in your closest mailbox for free before Wednesday 5th October.
Or, you can drop your papers off in person before midday Saturday 8th October at one of the following locations:
- Taihape Information Centre / Library
- Te Matapihi, Bulls
- Council’s main office building – High Street, Marton

Your voting pack will include information about the people who are standing for Council in this election. You can also visit our Local Government Elections 2022 for more information. Alternatively, head along to one of our Meet the Candidates evenings taking place in Marton, Taihape and Bulls across the month of September - meet your candidates in person and find out what they’re standing for.
It’s completely up to you who you vote for. It’s important you understand why your vote matters before you cast your vote. Our Mayor, Councillors and Community Board members are involved in decision making for the district so it’s important you vote for people who share your values to ensure they make decisions you are happy with for our district. You can find out more about who is standing for Council or Community Board by reading the candidate book that will come with your voting papers, or by looking at our website.
Voting in the local elections is easy. From Friday 16 September you will begin to receive your voting packs in the mail. Simply cast your vote by filling out the voting form, seal the form in the return envelope provided and pop it in your closest mailbox for free before Wednesday 5 October 2022.
