Emergency calls
In the event of any emergency, please call the 111 emergency number.
Call 111 if the emergency is happening right now, including:
- Fire
- Medical problems
- Person/s in danger
- Risk to life or property
For non-life threatening situations call 105 or lodge a report online.
Our Rangitīkei District Council website will also provide information on the homepage in the event of a local emergency.
Civil Defence
If there is an emergency, like an earthquake or flood, it's important to be ready and know where to get help. To learn how you can prepare, download a family plan and get ready for whatever might happen.
For local updates in case of an emergency, we suggest following Civil Defence Manawatū Whanganui on Facebook and visiting civildefence.govt.nz.
Earthquakes
If there is an earthquake in your area and it is LONG or STRONG - remember to GET GONE.

Tsunami
The entire coastline of New Zealand is at risk of tsunami. If a strong earthquake has recently occurred in your rohe (area), it’s important to act fast by evacuating the tsunami zone and moving to higher ground. For the latest information, visit civildefence.govt.nz.
Severe weather
With increasing weather events caused by climate change, our District can be susceptible to heavy rainfall, high winds, and flooding. If you experience flooding or encounter road damage in your area, please reach out to our 24/7 call centre on 0800 422 522.

To get in touch with the regional co-ordinator for the Māori Wardens Whanganui regional centre, you can call 027 415 9651 or email Wayne Seeley at seelw@tpk.govt.nz. This centre covers Whanganui, Taranaki, Rangitīkei, and Ruapehu.
