Taihape Swim Centre Contract Awarded
October 20, 2017
The contract for the Taihape Swim Centre was awarded to West End Aquatics Ltd by the Rangitikei District Council at their meeting on 12 October 2017.
Trevor Nicholls and his team from West End Aquatics have been successfully running the Marton Swim Centre for the past five years. Trevor said he will be looking locally for employees to work at the Swim Centre. He intends to continue the Swim for All programme, and will approach local schools and early childhood centres to encourage both students and teachers to take part in these swim programmes.
Trevor has previously secured sponsorship from Gallaghers, a local Marton company, to provide a programme for four years old to learn to swim at the Marton Pool, now with the agreement of Gallaghers he will extend this programme at the Taihape Pool. He also intends to promote the ‘Green Prescription’ (a personalised physical activity programme) and work with people to improve their health and well-being.
Commissioned by the Council, the Taihape pools filtration and heating systems have been undergoing a major upgrade over the past few months, and painting of the small pools is due to start, it is expected this work will be completed soon but may slightly delay the planned opening date of the Swim Centre. A confirmation of the opening date will be provided as soon as it is known.
The Council extends its thanks and appreciation to the Taihape Community Development Trust for running the Taihape Swim Centre over recent years.
