Solid Waste services during Covid-19 lock down
March 27, 2020
Update as of 9am, Monday 30 March.
During this time there will be heightened pressure on the Solid Waste service with reduced staff and contractor resourcing.
If you are able to hold your refuse and/or recycling at your property please do – this will help to reduce the volume that we need to handle which will help us to maintain the service we can offer to the community.
Essential/emergency bagged rubbish is ordinary domestic household refuse and recycling. If people are using the lock down period to have a clean up (getting rid of household junk) do not bring your rubbish to the transfer stations, doing so will overload our service. Hold on to your refuse and services until Alert Levels are dropped and our stations can run at full capacity.
Recycling will not be sorted during Alert Level 4 as the poses a significant risk to staff.
- All existing kerbside rubbish bag collections for all areas will continue on the current scheduled day. Please note this a private service and if you have any questions with regards to this service please contact your local service provider.
- The Marton Refuse Transfer Station at King Street will be closed to the public for general waste disposal, however there is a special drop-off facility setup for the Covid-19 lock down period at the front of the Marton Transfer Station. This is a single bin for both rubbish and recycling and is for essential/emergency bagged domestic refuse and recycling only.
- Ratana Refuse Transfer Station – The Transfer Station facility will be open for essential/emergency bagged refuse and recycling only, at the standard times on 2:30pm -4:30pm Wednesdays and 9:00am-12:00pm Saturdays
- Hunterville Refuse Transfer Station - The Transfer Station facility will be open for essential/emergency bagged refuse and recycling only, at the standard time 2:00pm-5:00pm on Sundays.
- Mangaweka Refuse Transfer Station - The Transfer Station facility will be open for essential/emergency bagged refuse and recycling only, at the standard time 10:30am-1:00pm on Sundays
- Bulls & Taihape Refuse Transfer Stations are currently closed to the general public and there will be NO provision for green waste disposal or general waste disposal at any of the Transfer Stations in the district. Council is currently working with our contracted provider to extend services at these sites and will provide an update as soon as possible.
- All rural recycling centres will close.
Please ensure when using any Refuse Transfer Stations that you maintain the correct social distancing at all times. Only one person is to place the bags into the bin provided and no contact is made with the operator at the site.
If you have, or suspect you have Covid19, then please ensure:
- All waste from these households should be held for at least three days, ideally a week before placed out for kerbside collection.
- If you do not have a kerbside service, all infected waste should be placed in a tied plastic bag and held for at least three days before disposal.
Any changes to this service will be communicated via our Facebook page and Covid-19 Information page.
