Solid Waste Services during Covid19 Lockdown.
Update for refuse and recycling
March 26, 2020
As New Zealand's Covid19 Alert Level 4 lock down came into force this morning, there will be additional decisions and exemptions implemented of the next few days. Latest official information has just been released with regards Rubbish & Recycling. Here are the details:
UPDATED: 12.30pm, Thursday 26 March
Solid Waste services during the Covid-19 shutdown period:
- All existing kerbside rubbish bag collection will continue on the current scheduled day. Please note this is a private service and if you have any questions please contact your local service provider.
- The Marton Refuse Transfer Station at King Street will be closed to the public - however a new domestic refuse and domestic recycling drop off area has been established at the front of the Marton Transfer Station. This is a single bin for both rubbish and recycling and is for domestic purposes only.
- All other Refuse Transfer Stations across the district are closed at present and there will be NO provision for green waste disposal or general waste disposal at any of the Transfer Stations in the district.
Council is currently working with our contracted provider to extend services at these sites and will provide an update as soon as possible. - All rural recycling centres will close.
During this time there will be heightened pressure on the Solid Waste service with reduced staff and contractor resourcing. If you are able to hold your recycling at your property please do – this will help to reduce the volume that we need to handle which will help us to maintain the service we can offer to the community.
Any changes to this service will be communicated via our Facebook page.
Please check our Covid19 Updates page regularly as this is a rapidly changing space.
