Mobile Library Hitting Our Streets
August 18, 2022
We've teamed up with Whanganui District Library to get the library van on our streets.
Melanie Bovey, the Manager of Library Services for the Rangitikei District Libraries said she was really pleased to see locals already in the van when she arrived at Koitiata Beach to meet the van and driver on its first official outing in the Rangitīkei.
When Nicholas Keen the Whanganui Library Frontline Services Manager was asked what the motivation was for Whanganui to offer this trial to Rangitīkei he said “The enthusiasm of the Whanganui District Library team for spreading literacy knows no boundaries and we are delighted to be working with our Rangitīkei colleagues to reach more people with our stories. At a time when New Zealand’s low literacy rates are in the news, we all have a responsibility to think creatively and collaboratively.”
Starting on the 24 August and every fortnight after the mobile library will be visiting the following locations:
Koitiata Beach Hall | 9.30am-10.15am |
Rātana Hub | 10.30am-11.15am |
Whangaehu School (book drop only) | 11.30am-11.45am |
If the interest is there, we will look at expanding our run into our other small communities that don't have easy access to a library.
