Roading update - 24 June

Our roading team and contractors have been hard at work over the past few months and they've sent us these photos of the mahi they've done!

Maowhango Valley Road 1

Pukepapa Road - A large carriageway reconstruction is happening, as well as Powerco doing some upgrade work, so both them and Council are working together to try and minimise disruptions.

Makirikiri Road - We're widening the road next to the intersection with Goldings Line to make it safer for those vehicles wishing to turn into Goldings Line. They'll be able to sit in a bay at the top of the intersection and wait for traffic to pass.

Turakina Valley Road - There's a few different things happening here, but the main one is the installation of a rock wall to help protect the bank next to the river, near the Mangtipona Road intersection. They've also put in concrete apron pads in areas that are prone to slips, to make it easier to clean debris away.

Maowhango Valley Road - As well as concrete apron pads, we've been working on new culverts, a retaining wall, resurfacing, and a safety barrier to make a section of the road more resilient to extreme weather events.

Mortens Bridge, Turakina Valley Road - In our last update back in March, we'd just completed the reinforcement steel along the front of the bank and covered it with concrete. Now, drainage channels have been added to help prevent erosion to the bank by the bridge.

A before and after split image. The left image shows a dropout down a riverbank and two diggers being used to do work. The right image shows the bank filled in and a rock wall has been constucted.

A split image show two roads that have had concrete aprons next to banks that are prone to slips.

A split image of work that is happening on Pukepapa Road and Makirikiri Road. The left image is of Pukepapa Road, showing cones that are halfway across the road blocking the left hand lane. A blue arrow sign is pointing to the right, directing traffic. There's also a set of portable traffic lights with the light on yellow. On the right image is Makirikiri Road, with earthworks taking place on the lefthand side of the image.
