Downer was selected as Council’s preferred contractor in a publicly excluded item at its Council meeting held on Wednesday, 26 February. The contract will begin on 1 July 2025 for an initial three years, with options for renewals through until 2034 for a total of nine years.
“We have over 1200 kilometres of roads in our district, and it’s vital to our communities that our roading network is able to service the needs of our residents, businesses, farmers and visitors. Downer has a great reputation for delivering outstanding service, and we look forward to working with them on this new contract,” says Rangitīkei District Mayor Andy Watson.
Council’s Tender Evaluation Team recommended that Downer was the preferred contractor following a tender process, believing that they were the best placed of the three applicants to achieve what was required of the contract to ensure that the district’s roading network is fit for purpose.
Lyall Hedges, General Manager of the South at Downer Transport & Infrastructure, shares, "Downer is very pleased to partner with the Rangitikei District Council to provide high-quality road maintenance services that ensure safe and reliable transportation for the community. We are eager to apply our expertise, innovation, and commitment to excellence in delivering this important contract."
Following the end of Council’s shared services contract with Manawatū District Council on June 30 2024, Higgins had been given a one-year extension of the Roading Maintenance Services contract while Council developed its Roading Network Procurement Strategy.
On behalf of Rangitīkei District Council, Mayor Andy wishes to pass on his thanks to Higgins for the time they have provided the Roading Maintenance Services contract to Council.
