Opening Hours for the Christmas - New Year Period 2017-2018

The Marton Office will close at noon Fri 22 Dec 2017. During the holiday period, any service requests or problems can be directed to 0800 422 522 which is answered by our call centre 24 hours a day. See below for full details of opening hours for all RDC offices and waste transfer stations.
Water Mains Cleaning Marton - Update 15 December 2017

Adoption – Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2017

Council now has the ability to enforce parking related matters throughout the Rangitikei. The Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2017 was created to deal with parking and traffic related issues happening throughout the Rangitikei that Council did not have powers to address.
Reuse Shop at Marton Transfer Station

Taihape Swim Centre Contract Awarded

The contract for the Taihape Swim Centre was awarded to West End Aquatics Ltd by the Rangitikei District Council at their meeting on 12 October 2017. Trevor Nicholls and his team from West End Aquatics have been successfully running the Marton Swim Centre for the past five years.
Reappointment of Ross McNeil, Chief Executive

Mayor Andy Watson announced that the current Chief Executive, Ross McNeil, has been reappointed for two years to the role of Chief Executive. Under the provisions of the Local Government Act the Council is allowed to reappoint for a maximum of two years before it has to re-advertise the role.
Funding Boost for Bulls Project

A grant of $200,000 has been received from the JBS Dudding Charitable Trust for the proposed Bulls Community Centre. Mayor Andy Watson, said he was delighted to receive this grant from the Trust. “The Dudding Trust has, since its inception, given out millions of dollars to community organisations in the Rangitikei.
Rangitikei District Council Gains Local Government’s CouncilMARK™

Priority Areas Earthquake-Prone Buildings Consultation

The system for identifying and managing earthquake-prone buildings changed on 1 July 2017. Under the new system Council must consult with the community on areas where the strengthening of earthquake-prone buildings should occur faster due to their location in areas where there are high numbers of people or traffic.

Temporary Liquor Control Area - Hunterville Township

The Liquor Control area in Hunterville has been temporarily extended to include all of Hunterville within the township boundary apart from licensed premises. The period of this extension is: 11:00am Saturday 28 October to 11:00am Sunday 29 October.
Right to Demand a Poll on Local Electoral System

The electors of the Rangitikei District Council have the right to demand a poll on the electoral system to be used for the elections of the Rangitikei District Council and its community boards. If a valid demand for a poll is received by 21 February 2018, the poll will be held not later than 21 May 2018, and will have effect for the 2019 and 2022 triennial general elections.
Proposed Name Change of Inland Road

Council has received a request to change the name of Inland Road to ‘Keith Law Road’. The request has been made in the memory of Keith Law who was the Chairman of the Board of Directors and a shareholder of Te Rangi Pai Forest Ltd, which is located on Inland Road.
Water Issues in Central Marton - 29 August 2017

A water mains in the Kensington Road area blew out overnight, which may affect Marton water - you may notice discolouration and should flush your cold taps - inside and outside. Our staff have been out most of the night fixing the mains, but the water will be discoloured until all areas have been flushed. If you have any concerns please ring the Council on 327 0099 or 0800 422 522.

Consultation – RMA Fees and Charges

Recent amendments to the Resource Management Act 1991 have created additional activities which require associated charges. The proposed fees are a deposit, with the total cost of processing the application determined following at the end of the process. It is proposed that the existing hourly rates specified in the schedule of fees and charges are used.

Changes to Fire-Related Bylaws

The Fire Prevention Bylaw 2014 was revoked on 29 June 2017. It has been revoked as fire-related matters are now under the authority of Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Additionally, the restriction for the lighting of fires is now under the authority of Fire and Emergency New Zealand. This amendment took immediate effect.
