Rates Rebate

Do you qualify for a rates rebate?

A rates rebate is a partial refund for people who pay rates to the council.

You must be:

  • the person who pays the rates on the property that’s your home
  • living in your home
  • listed as the ratepayer in the council’s Rating Information Database (RID). This database has all the information about rates and ratepayers for every property in your council’s area.

You can’t apply if:

  • your property is mainly used for commercial activities, for example farming or business
  • your property is a rental property or holiday home.

Application forms for the Rates Rebate are provided to Council by the Department of Internal Affairs usually mid to late August. If you received a rebate in the previous rating year you will automatically be sent an application form from us after the first instalment has been paid.

* Please do not rely on the rebate to cover the 1st instalment.

If you have not applied/received a rebate in the last rating year you are welcome to phone our Customer Experience Staff who will send an application to you when they are available.

The income information required will be your earnings for the previous financial year 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 and must be included in your application form.

Your application is due to by 30 June each year.
