Projects for 2019
Marton B and C Dams
During winter 2019 we will be planting nearly 23000 plants throughout the Marton Dams catchment area, this planting will be the largest planting this region has seen for many years. We will also be installing the access tracks, weed control will continue and plant protectors installed.
Taihape Town Centre
The Taihape town centre will see a continuation of work that commenced in 2018. We have ordered almost 1000 Taihape plants for planting from May through to July. This will see this project completed in the Taihape CBD.
Marton Skatepark
Look out for this one, the new facility set to commence construction on the 11 February and will be a major drawcard to Marton. It has been designed to have a point-of-difference than other skateparks in the wider region. The construction period will be approximately 12 weeks with an opening of this new facility during April.
Rangatira Cemetery extension
January will see a significant extension of the Rangatira cemetery at Hunterville commence. During 2018 it become evident that the cemetery was nearing capacity and within a short period of time if it wasn’t extended, we would need to close it. With the agreement of the neighbouring landowner we are progressing with the purchase of a piece of land that would ensure this cemetery will operate for another 100 years.
On a personal note I would like to thank my team for all the work they have done in our region this year and my thanks to all the community groups that I have worked with during 2018. To everyone else, from the parks team thank you for your support this year have a Merry Christmas and safe and happy holiday.
