Parks Update - Marton Dam plantings by Ben Woolston
Our weekly Wednesday morning plantings at Marton's B&C dams has kicked off and will carry on through winter. We'll also be holding open days for planting on weekends - we'll advise you of the days and times as we go along.
Please contact myself - Environmental Parks Assistant Ben Woolston

The plantings at the dam was funded by Matariki Tu Rākau to commemorate and honour our New Zealand Defence Force members, past and present. The fund allowed us to buy 24,000 native plants to create a living forest on the 54 hectare site.
The Government announced Matariki Tu Rākau on Anzac Day, 25 April 2018. It's an opportunity for communities to plant trees to recognise the service of men and women of the New Zealand Defence Force, past and present. Tree plantings and local community-led celebrations began during Matariki 2018. The programme is a series of initiatives around the country to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War, with 350,000 trees to be planted through Matariki Tu Rākau events between 2018 and 2020.
Matariki Tu Rākau plantings will create living memorials to complement our time-honoured war memorial monuments. They will be public places where whanau, communities, and visitors can reflect on the work and sacrifices of our service personnel.
I look forward to seeing you at our Wednesday morning plantings. If the weather is dodgy, call me or the RDC office 06 327 0099 to make sure we're still heading out there.
